Colorado Convention Center holds Nursing Leadership Conference

The 2015 AORN, a nursing leadership conference, will feature a two day Leadership Development Summit at the Colorado Convention Center.

Speakers at the nursing leadership conference at the Colorado Convention Center will include Linda Condon, Susan H. Hicks, Phil Jaklich, Gail Horvath, Pamela Hunt, Tim Porter-O’Grady, Cynthia Spry, Suzanne Ward and Joe Tye.

Linda Condon is a registered nurse who has over 29 years experience working in the perioperative environment. She currently serves as the Assistant Director of the Sterile Processing Department at Johns Hopkins Hospital. Her focus has been improving Operating Room and Central Sterile Processing Department practices including cleaning, disinfecting, sterilizing and distributing surgical equipment.

Susan Hicks, a speaker at the nursing leadership conference, is the COO for HealthONE Sky Ridge Medical Center. There her responsibilities include opening and continuous operations of the acute-care hospital, surgical services, quality, risk management, rehabilitative, cardiopulmonary environmental, the cardiovascular program and more. Under her leadership, she helps plan, control and evaluate the allocation of resources to better serve the community and organization.

Phil Jaklich, director of the spine and total joint center at Sky Ridge Medical Center in Colorado, leads multiple nursing units. Phil’s interest is in creating and sharing information with client, patients, surgeons, supply teams and insurance providers as well as share why and how of the journey.

Gail Horvath has an MSN in nursing leadership and health systems management from Drexel University and is currently a patient safety analyst and consultant and works with the ECRI Institute Patient Safety Organization and Insight Assessment Services. She has over 30 years’ in acute care. Previously she was a perioperative educator, clinical director, system manager and a nurse in Medical and Surgical Trauma ICU. Her roles included involvement in patient safety committees.

Pamela is the chief nurse executive for Community Health Network’s north region in Indianapolis, Indiana. She has taught nationally and internationally on healthcare leadership, been published in national journals, and authored a section of a book called “5 Keys To Successful Nursing Management.”

For the past 38 years Tim has held roles from staff nurse to senior executive. He is currently senior partner of an international healthcare consulting firm and is associate professor and leadership scholar at Arizona State University. Dr. Porter-O’Grady holds graduate degrees in clinical leadership and two doctorates. He has consulted and lectured internationally. Additionally, he has held offices in professional associations and boards. He looks forward to speaking at this nursing leadership conference at the Colorado Convention Center.

Cynthia has been an independent consultant for over 30 years in a perioperative setting including over seven years as an OR educator, five years as a director of surgical services, and over 12 years as an international clinical consultant. She is a past president of AORN, who holds this nursing leadership conference which is frequently held at the Colorado Convention Center. Spry has written more than 75 articles and has authored two books on perioperative nursing. She has lectured in more than 17 countries.

Suzanne, an MN and MA, is a perioperative nurse, who works and coaches on the power of Conscious Leadership. She has taught perioperative nursing, been a nurse leader, and is passionate about  planting the seeds of Conscious Leadership in leaders. She has an extensive background in coaching and counseling employees in her perioperative practice.

Joe Tye is CEO and head coach of Values Coach, which provides consulting on values-based leadership and cultural transformation. He is the author or coauthor of 12 books. Previously, he was COO for a large community teaching hospital.
